Chairman’s Chat, February 2015

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a good January and have stuck to all your New Years’ resolutions. I always make a few in the hope I manage to keep to at least one.

I went to see the Theory of Everything last month, which was chosen in my monthly Facebook vote for our cinema night. It’s not the kind of film I would normally go for but it was really good and the acting was amazing for such a hard role to play. I can see lots awards coming Eddie Remayne way who played Stephen Hawking. I would defiantly recommend going to see it. I would also like to thank Rhian and Sian for organising a lovely walk out to the Plough in Waverton along the canal.  There was a really good turn out; definitely one for us to do again in the summer.

This year is already going fast, after organising the Christmas party it’s now time to start thinking about the AGM, which is just round the corner in April. So it’s time to start getting your thoughts together on the past year and the future of the club and talking to members of the committee if you’re interested in getting involved next year.

Lastly I would like to welcome our newest members David Atkinson and Claire Bolton.

Have a good month everybody.

Dave

Chairman’s Chat, July 2014: There’s lots of events going on, and also Christmas to think of…

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to July’s edition of Chairman’s Chat. I hope you all had a great month and enjoyed June’s many successful events. Congratulations go to both Glenn and Sophie for hosting their first events last month. Glenn’s England v Italy event was sold out even before the bulletin was out and Sophie’s Havana night had a great turn out with guys outnumbered by girls by at least 4-1. I didn’t get in till 4am so it must have been good. Its also great to see something a little different appearing in the bulletin thanks to Hilary and Pip (also Pips first event) for what sounded like a very successful Pudding club.

As you night have noticed with the survey I emailed round, I have been busy looking into venues for our Christmas party this year. It feels very strange when its so far away, but you have to be quick to get the best venues. We had a committee meeting last night and from the results of the survey, depending on availability, its looking like it will be held at the Double Tree in Hooleon Saturday the 20th; the final confirmation should be out next month.

Last of all a big welcome to our latest new members, Alan Farrar, Lee Pacey, Pip Newman and Nick Yates.

Have a good month everyone 🙂

Cheers

Dave

Chairman’s Chat – June 2013

Hi everyone,

I’m writing this after a great committee meeting, where I think we managed to achieve something despite the repeated fits of giggles!

The highlight of the month for me was the beer festival, mainly as there was such a good turnout from members new and longstanding; it was great to catch up with so many people. Also I particularly enjoyed the coach trip back to Chester, where two Scouse girls were lambasting a sheepish looking young man about his poor performance downing the yard of ale. If only it was on YouTube.

We’ve made some steps forward with events in terms of keeping you all up to date so I just want to summarise these for you here. The current bulletin will be e-mailed out as normal at the start of each month but can also now be found in the members area of the website. There is also a calendar feature in the members area where you can view Forthcoming Events (further into the future than just the current bulletin). Hover over the dates on the calendar and you can see what is on. This might be useful if you’re wondering which dates are free to put on an event, or planning your own diary around what’s on. However you can always speak to Hilary or Jenni on the events e-mail address to find out everything you need to know if you’d like to host something and are wondering how it fits in with our existing plans.

We have also developed our “shop windows” for prospective members – a public facebook page, and on the website a calendar showcasing past events so people can get a flavour of who we are and what we do. Do take a look, “like” the facebook page, and speak to Leanne, Aidan, or myself for more info on these.

We welcome this month new member Hannah Edwards – if you haven’t met her yet, do say hello to her on a club night soon!
