I can’t believe how quickly this month has flown by. We had our trip to Dublin where we found some great bars and places to eat, rode the open top bus around the whole city and even found prosecco on tap!! Aidan led a trip down the mines and we topped the month off with a few beers and a curry.
Coming up this month we have some tea parties, birthday celebrations and a farewell. Can you please get in touch with the organisers to let them know if you are coming. A few more changes will be brought in this month. We’ve drafted a ‘how to’ guide to explain to new members how to put on events and Pip is looking into ordering some business cards for the committee to hand out with our contact details on.
Finally, we will be trialling a new section in the bulleting called ‘What’s New With You’ in which members post a little update about anything new they’d like to share with the other members. We haven’t quite got it formatted yet but here’s some exciting news to get the ball rolling. Andy and Rachael would like to let you know about the arrival of baby Daniel last Wednesday (23rd Sept) weighing in at 7lb 13oz. I’m sure you’ll all join me in sending our best wishes and congratulations!
What a busy month it has been! We’ve had pub crawls, BBQs, walks, visits from old friends and farewells. September looks a little quieter but with a weekend in Dublin and a trip down the mines to look forward to.
As you will have seen, we have booked the Town Hall for our Christmas Party. This is a great venue with the catering supplied by the same people who provide for the Race Course. There is a generous subsidy of £15 this year for members who have put on events so we expect the tickets to go quickly!
The Committee have recently been discussing how we can make our IVC even better to provide more varied events supported by an active membership base. We have also met in small groups to focus on specific aspects. We’ve had some lively discussions and have come up with some exciting ideas which I will share with you over the coming months. You will already have seen the mail about the formation of the Whatsapp group, 20 members have joined up already! You will notice a change in the bulletin shortly with the introduction of a pictures page showing some of the events of the previous month.
I’d like to welcome Andy B to the group!
Hope you all enjoyed last months events. My legs are still hurting after getting back from the Lakes at the weekend. We were very lucky with the weather avoiding the rain, although it did try once or twice. There was a group walk on the Saturday and then I decided along with Richard C and Andy C to complete a further walk on the Sunday. Most of the group opted for a leisurely boat trip around the lake and a walk around the shops in Keswick. A big thank you to Jo for organising it’s always a great weekend away.
I also made my 3rd trip down the copper mines at Alderley Edge last month, which is always fun and interesting and I can highly recommend it if Aidan or anyone else ever decided to put on another a trip in the future.
Don’t forget if you haven’t yet bought your Christmas party ticket there are still some places available but they’re going fast. For those that have reserved tickets we will be sending out an e-mail later this month on collecting the balance as we need to pay the hotel in November.
Finally I would like to wish Claire the best of luck in her new job as she will shortly be leaving us to take up an exciting new job in Jakarta, Indonesia this month.
Have a good month everyone 🙂
September began for me in Anglesey: a fantastic weekend with high points including Sally’s excellent cooking, an early morning dip in the chilly sea, and some good walks punctuated by great pubs! We’ve also had a good variety in club night venues: don’t forget suggestions for club night and grub of the month venues are always welcome! Of course the main event was our 21st birthday party…
Thanks so much for everyone who made it; final numbers were not far short of 100! Special thank you to Sally who was the one who spotted that it was our 21st in the first place, Alison for organising the cakes, Jo for getting us such a great DJ and to everyone who got in touch with former members and friends which made it such a special night! I had a great night, hope you all did too.
The Christmas party is our next point of focus. Tickets will be on sale shortly for our party on Saturday 8th December at Chester Racecourse. We have reserved 35 tickets but can increase this as long as we have enough notice, so if you are intending to come please buy your ticket as soon as you can so that no-one who wants to come misses out. The tickets are £42, with a subsidised price of £35 for anyone who has put on an event this year; events must be in the November bulletin at the latest, so you’ll need to get a move on if you’ve not hosted anything yet!
Hope to see lots of you there and throughout the month. Highlights for October will be Christine’s Halloween party and going outside of my “comfort zone” caving down the mines at Alderley Edge with Aidan and a big group of us.
