Chairman’s Chat, June 2015

Hi All,

This is my first Chairman’s chat which is a little daunting.

Firstly, I would like to thank Dave for the good work he did in his role as Chairman last year. Dave has taken on the role of Webmaster this year so I’m really happy to still have him in the committee to help me as I settle into the role. I would also like to thank our outgoing committee members Sian, Aidan, Helen P and Alison B for all of their hard work and effort (Alison is kindly hanging on in the AIVC role until we have a replacement). I am very happy to say that Ellie, Mike, Richard and Heather will continue their great work and stay on the committee this year. I would like to welcome Sam and Pip in the roles of Bulletin Editor and Publicity Officer respectively.

I’m really looking forward to working with the committee to maintain, and improve if possible, some of the key things that makes the CNW IVC what it is – an active and engaged group of members, a great selection of events, new people coming along to our club nights and events and staying with us to become members.

My final note on the committee is to remind you all that the roles of AIVC and Events Officer are still vacant. If you think you might like to take on one of these roles or just want to find out more information please get in touch with myself, Alison or one of the committee.

I ought to mention, if you’re wondering what is going on in the picture, that’s the Fat Controller singing happy birthday to me last year in Llangollen. That’s the best picture I have! I’ll try harder for next month’s bulletin.

We had some great events on in May including the 2 beer festivals, the spring party, Eurovision party, pub crawl and a BBQ. Events for June are varied to say the least – a curry night, Bingo, prosecco evening, a country walk (with pub lunch) and a Dire Straits tribute act.

As most of you will know we also have an international event in June. Six of us are jetting off to Jakarta and Borneo to visit Claire, one of our more far flung members! Heather, Sian, Ellie, Helen H, Pip and myself are off to explore jungles, mountains, waterfalls and visit orangutans and sun bears and climb a volcano! Let’s hope we make it back in one piece otherwise you’ll have lost nearly half of your committee.

Well have a great month and I hope to see a lot of you out and about.

Chairman’s Chat, May 2015

Hi All,

The May Chairman’s chat it is usually all about the AGM and welcoming the new committee but I am writing this before the AGM, as it’s being held late this year. Hopefully we should now have a new committee elected and have recruited a few new volunteers to replace those who have stepped down. It’s always great to see new people joining the committee every year who can bring some new ideas and enthusiasm to take the club forward into the next membership year.

I had some great nights out last month; thanks to Matthew and Lee for coming along to my Telford’s night to see the Sundowners. Telford’s is always a great night and the band were really good. We had a great turn out for Alison’s birthday later in the month which was enjoyed by all with a mix of older and newer members, and even some ex members. It was a shame that the canal trip was cancelled last month due to John’s work commitments, but I believe he is planning to reschedule the event later this year so look out for that one as I know a number of people were looking forward to it.

Lots to look forward to this month: Spring Party, Pub Crawl, two beer festivals, Eurovision party, BBQ and much more 🙂

Finally I would like to welcome our newest member Sam.

Have a good month everyone and congratulations to the new committee.

Chairman’s Chat, April 2015

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a good month and enjoyed last month’s events. Thanks to those of you that joined me for my birthday celebrations at Telfords; I had a great night and the band “Tankus the Henge” were really good. I ended the night with Disco Dave making an appearance on the dance floor. I had such a good night that I have decided to host another Telfords night this month with a band that have had good press and also appeared at Glastonbury; I am expecting good things. I believe the pub night with Ellie also went down well and it’s great to hear that a number of our current prospective members joined her and had a really good night.

It’s the AGM this month, a bit later than usual, but we will be sticking to tradition and offering a free drink to all those that arrive promptly between 7:30pm and 8pm. We will then get down to business of reviewing 2014-15 and electing a new committee. All committee places will be up for grabs so if you would like to get involved with the running of the club there are current committee members who have decided not to stand for re-election, so we will be looking to find some new faces to join us.

Have a good month everyone and I hope to see lots of you at the AGM 🙂

Chairman’s Chat, December 2014

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed last month’s events.  I can’t believe it’s December already; this year seems to have flown by.

I am really looking forward to the Christmas party at the Double Tree; we are trying out a new venue this year following the Racecourse the previous two years.  We have now sold all our tickets, and it should be a great night.  For those of you on the reserve list I will let you know if any spaces become available.

The calendar is a little bit empty over the Christmas period as people will be off doing their own thing with family and friends; feel free to organize any ad-hoc events using the members’ group e-mail and Facebook page.

Club night falls on Christmas Eve this year so we have decided to have a pub crawl instead to get us into the festive mood.  We are also hoping to get something organized for New Year’s Eve, possibly a house party or a night out; if you have any ideas or would like to host please let Rhian know.

This should have been in last month’s Chairman’s Chat but I had already submitted it before Andy reminded me…  So, better late than never well done to both Andy and Giles, who have both been sporting fine moustaches over the past month, for yet another year of supporting Movember raising money for men’s health awareness.  You can donate at

We have had another change on the committee this month as Carol stepped down due to other commitments.  So I would like to welcome and thank Heather who has volunteered to take her place.

Finally I would like to welcome our newest members Pip and Helen.

Have a good month every one and I wish you all a Happy Christmas and New Year.

Chairman’s Chat, November 2014

Hi All,

Hope you all enjoyed last months events. There’s lots to look forward to this month as well.

Firstly, I would like to welcome and thank Ellie and Mike for volunteering to join the committee to take over from Claire as Membership Secretaries. They are both regular club night attendees and they will be great at welcoming prospective members to the group.

Thank you for all of those that have said they would like to come to the Christmas party on the 20th December at the Double Tree. So far we have 41 people on the list so it should be a great night and its always the highlight of the CNW-IVC year. We now need to collect in the balances for those who have put their name down for a ticket as we need to collect all the money by mid November so we can pay the hotel in time. Please can you pay ASAP via the Paypal links provided otherwise Richard Cross will be collecting money at club nights. If you have not put your name down for a ticket we should still be able to get places tickets are priced at £25 for members who have put on a bulleted event, otherwise £30 for members and £32 for Guests and Prospective members.

And lastly a big welcome to our newest member Stephan Abson

Have a good month everyone 🙂

Chairman’s Chat, May 2014: it’s farewell from Kay, and hello from the new committee

Hi everyone,

Hopefully by now you’ll have seen the minutes from the AGM last week if you couldn’t be there, and know that this is my last Chairman’s Chat! After 3 years on the committee and two as Chair, I’m handing over to Dave Clark and I’m sure he’ll carry on the momentum we have now to take the club forward. Thanks to all the outgoing committee and good luck to the new bunch. I’m sure there’s an analogy I can draw between stepping down from the committee and retirement: less work, more play and plenty of time for gardening!

Chester is full of festivals in May and there’s lots to look forward to this summer. I hope you’ll all take the time to think about adding an event or two to the programme over the coming months; we’re only as good a club as you make it.

Finally, my last job is to wish a warm welcome to our EIGHT new members approved this month: Sophie, Laura, Sam, Phil, Mike, Sian, Matt and Helen!
