Wow, July was certainly packed with some great events and August won’t disappoint either!
August kicks off with almost an event every day in the first week! From a talk on wildlife, days out to live music. The month continues with surfing, chilli, castles and cinema trips. We welcome the return of moonlight flicks, cinema under the stars.
Not forgetting the IVC summer event – the summer BBQ on the 19th. Always a well attended event, food, friends and sunshine – what’s not to like! Well done to all of those putting on events – you make the club what it is.
See you all soon.
We’ve had a great August kicked off by mine and Carol’s birthday party, it was lovely to see so many of you there. The summer BBQ and Lee’s tour of Chester’s beer gardens were great too.
We have a lot of people signed up on our Meetup site but we need your help. New people are more likely to come along to an event if they see others are going too. Can you please sign up to Meetup and confirm when you’ll be coming along to events. Dave will send out an email with instructions.
In September we have a couple of walks an excellent band and a cinema night and our trip to New York!
June saw another successful new member’s evening, a lovely afternoon in the Handbridge beer garden, a night out at Telford’s and a cinema night.
Following on from Laura’s email I would like to encourage you all to think about the type of event you would like to put on. If you would like any help or someone to co-host just give one of the committee members a shout.
July sees the return of Claire on the 2nd for a quick visit, birthday drinks with Ellie, Telford’s and a cinema night. We’ve also got our next new members evening on the 30th
The summer starts here! Let’s hope the weather is good to us this year.
As you all know, we had the AGM last month. The committee stayed pretty much the same but with Ellie making the move to the role of Secretary. A new award was introduced, the Chairman’s Award, to be given annually for going above and beyond. This year it was won jointly by Pip and Dave for innovation.
This month we have races, a band night at Telford’s, and our regular New Members’ Event on the18th. You’ll also notice our club night venues have outside spaces so we can enjoy the summer evenings.
Welcome to New member Rosie and welcome back to John.
We had our second mixer in April to attract potential new members and it was great to see some new faces. The success of the mixers has been enhanced by our presence on Meetup and we’re seeing more people joining our online group.
April also saw our 25th anniversary, the party was great and I’d like to thank Laura and Lee for organising it and Christine for baking the delicious cake.
As you know it’s our AGM on Wednesday the 4th of May. It’s not too late to stand for any of the committee positions, just get in touch if you need any information.
I hope to see as many of you as possible on Wednesday.
We’ve had quite an eventful month with a trip to Liverpool with Dave, or second new members event, basket ball matches and a boozy Easter egg hunt.
We have a lot to look forward to this month with our third new members event on the 9th, a night out in Telfords on the 29th (always popular) and a walking tour of Chester on the 30th. On top of these events, I’m really excited to be celebrating our 25th Anniversary on the 23rd. This will be a really special event and we hope to see many members, both old and new and prospective ones too!
You will remember last year that the committee were looking at new ways of attracting new members. Dave has been busy working his IT magic and signed us up to Meetup for a six month trial. A lot of other IVCs have already done this and we hope to expose our group to a wider audience. A separate message will be sent letting you know how to get involved.
Finally, a May date for your diary, We will be holding the AGM on May 4th (venue TBC). I would encourage all of you to think about taking up a role on the Committee, its a really rewarding way to get more involved with our IVC group. I will send out more information about the roles but in the meantime please speak to any of the Committee members.
This is the last chairman’s chat of 2015. Looking back, we’ve had some great times through the year and I’m looking forward to plenty of good times to come in 2016.
We’ve welcomed some new members and hope to meet lots more new people in the new year.
So let’s raise a glass and welcome in 2016!
I would also like to welcome Alison to the group.
It looks like summer is with us, let’s hope it stays as we’ve got some great pubs with lovely outdoor areas for club nights this month.
The two events I got to in June were well attended and a good time was had by all. The curry night put on by Hillary
and Jenni was particularly busy!
We all made it back in one piece from Jakarta and I am pleased to say Claire is doing well and in fine fettle.
On that note, keep your diaries free on 7th August as Claire is making a flying visit to the UK and putting on an event while she’s here. That’s a picture of me at one of the hotels we stayed in.
July is looking great with the races, a beer festival, a walk/cycle/pub lunch, a poetry evening and a walk and blog to get the literary juices flowing. I think there must be something there for everyone.
I hope to see a lot of you out over the coming weeks. If the lovely weather inspires you to put on a last minute event just drop a mail to ************************.
See you soon.
I’m writing this with the opening stage of the Tour de France on in the background, settled for an afternoon on the sofa after a busy start: I took a turn at marshalling at the Delamere Parkrun this morning, quite correctly having assumed that I wouldn’t be up for running myself the morning after our BYO Bistro night at Marmalade! Eighteen of us had an excellent meal last night, great value and it was lovely to have exclusive use of the venue for the night. Do check out the photographs on the facebook page or website!
Thanks to Aidan for the Wildboarclough weekend in June. Jo has Derwentwater booked for September and we’re hoping to have a UK city break in November as we felt we have a hole in the programme for a weekend away that’s not based around the outdoors!
July looks excellent: highlights include a bike ride, three very different cinema trips and drinks in town. The main event for me will be the always excellent Spitting Feathers Beer Festival out in Waverton- get your ticket FAST if you haven’t already, as this night has a great atmosphere and is something quite special.
Finally, this month we welcome new member Glenn Miller!
December’s here! I can believe it though, because it’s freezing! I’m looking forward to putting up my Christmas tree the day before the party and declaring the festive season open from then.
November’s been a busy month for me so I’ve missed a few IVC events which sounded great, but I enjoyed my first time at Dave’s cinema night and an epic feast at grub of the month at Hickory’s Smokehouse. Thanks to everyone who put things on this month and especially to those who hosted their first events! Great to see new members rolling their sleeves up and getting involved.
Thanks also to everyone who brought items for the Liverpool Keep Warm Collective’s appeal for women’s winter clothing. These were dropped in Liverpool this week and will be much appreciated.
We have 39 of us off the Racecourse for the Christmas Party and with a good mix of long standing and newer members it should prove to be a great event! I’m also over-excited as ever about our trip to the Theatre Clwyd Pantomime, which is always joyful. As we go to press there’s one ticket going spare so get in touch with Jo if you fancy it!
Have a great Christmas and New Year everyone and get thinking about some events for January that are New Year’s Resolution friendly: low cost, low calorie, high energy and maybe a chance to try new things?!
