Autumn’s definitely here and brings with it a host of great things on in Cheshire for Halloween and Bonfire Night, with thoughts even heading towards Christmas. Tickets for the Christmas Party can be bought using the links found in your e-mails or in the members area of www.cnw-ivc.org.uk (password can be found as always at the back of this bulletin). They’re selling fast and I strongly recommend if you haven’t bought yours yet you do so within the next week! Should be a great night with great food and entertainment; I look forward to seeing lots of you there!
We’ve had some great well-attended events this month; thanks go to Aidan for taking a dozen of us down the mines at Alderley Edge which was a brilliant night and ensured I burned off at least some of the calories added from all of the months beer festivals and Hilary’s epic curry.
November is a very busy month with tons of great events so thanks to all who have contributed to this bulletin, especially those who are hosting their first event. There’s loads to look forward to so keep this bulletin to hand to make sure you don’t miss anything!
September began for me in Anglesey: a fantastic weekend with high points including Sally’s excellent cooking, an early morning dip in the chilly sea, and some good walks punctuated by great pubs! We’ve also had a good variety in club night venues: don’t forget suggestions for club night and grub of the month venues are always welcome! Of course the main event was our 21st birthday party…
Thanks so much for everyone who made it; final numbers were not far short of 100! Special thank you to Sally who was the one who spotted that it was our 21st in the first place, Alison for organising the cakes, Jo for getting us such a great DJ and to everyone who got in touch with former members and friends which made it such a special night! I had a great night, hope you all did too.
The Christmas party is our next point of focus. Tickets will be on sale shortly for our party on Saturday 8th December at Chester Racecourse. We have reserved 35 tickets but can increase this as long as we have enough notice, so if you are intending to come please buy your ticket as soon as you can so that no-one who wants to come misses out. The tickets are £42, with a subsidised price of £35 for anyone who has put on an event this year; events must be in the November bulletin at the latest, so you’ll need to get a move on if you’ve not hosted anything yet!
Hope to see lots of you there and throughout the month. Highlights for October will be Christine’s Halloween party and going outside of my “comfort zone” caving down the mines at Alderley Edge with Aidan and a big group of us.
August has been a busy month for planning! We now have two major events lined up which you will be able to get tickets for imminently: keep an eye on your e-mails!
Firstly, please go all out to make sure you can join us for the CNW IVC 21st Birthday party we’re holding at the Chester Boughton Hall Cricket Club on Friday 28th September. We hope as many of our current members as possible will be able to come and that there will be a great turn out of former members and friends too. Tickets will be just £5 for all and there will be a DJ for the evening. Everyone is welcome and we hope it will be a very special night, a chance to share stories, meet some legends and catch up with people who you don’t see so often.
We will also start taking payments shortly for the Christmas party at Chester Racecourse; please buy early so that you don’t miss out! It’s on Saturday 8th December.
August has not been all party preparation though: I’ve enjoyed the excellent open air performance of Twelfth Night in Grosvenor Park, organised by Jane, and some great club nights. The large group who went off to Derwentwater with Jo all confirmed it was again a highlight of our annual programme and I’m looking forward to my first ever trip to Anglesey as I write this now.
Finally, just a note to say we have re-introduced a physical diary to help the events team encourage you to keep contributing, so that this bulletin is always packed with great events. It’s always best to follow up with an e-mail when you’re planning something (to [email protected] or to the group [email protected] depending on the nature and timing of the event) but please look out for it to see what dates we have free and what we have coming up further ahead!
Summer finally arrived, in time for a very enjoyable weekend at Cumberland Cottage Bunk House in Wildboarclough this month; thanks to Aidan for the exceptional organisation that went in to it. Lessons learned and truths confirmed include: 16 miles is a very long walk; at some point on every walk, there is an exceptionally muddy farmyard; Geese do bite (has the mark gone down yet, Leanne?); when faced with a litter of Border Collie puppies, I am likely need considerable persuasion that I cannot, in fact, take one home; running water and electricity are not technically necessary for a good weekend. Definitely one to do again next year, maybe we can persuade a few more of you to rough it for a night or two; it’s a beautiful area!
We’ve had some lively club nights, a great time at the Laugh Inn, Dave’s film night, and a record badminton turn-out. The Spitting Feathers Beer Festival on Saturday was excellent as ever so I recommend everyone buys their tickets early next year to avoid missing out, though I know the many of you who joined Dave and Hilary out in Chester instead also had a great time!
We’ve two big weekends away book-ending August and good stuff in between. While the sun is shining, don’t forget Christmas isn’t as far away as you might think and next month we’ll be confirming ticket prices and subsidies for the Christmas Party. Remember we like everyone to host an event or two each year and you need to get one in the programme to ensure you get your discount for our party on Saturday 8th December!
Enjoy the sunshine and I hope to see lots of you this month; I’ll be at Richard’s Olympic party, some club nights and I’m looking forward to Sally’s weekend in Rhoscolyn, my first ever visit to Anglesey!
December’s upon us, so it’s time to get the Advent candle burning, and start scoffing the daily chocolate from my calendar. Final preparations are underway for the Christmas party, table planning and finalising numbers and menu choices with the
hotel. I guess it’s too late to start the diet to get into last year’s dress, which sounds to me like a good excuse to go shopping!!
Warm thanks to everyone who put on events in November, particularly to Jo for hosting a very lively fireworks party, and to our long-distance members Mark and Kristie, for both managing to host events during a weekend trip to Chester. Really, there is no excuse for the rest of us 🙂
I’ve been away for much of the month, but have been following Kay’s CNW-IVC twitter feed, which is a great way to keep in touch with what’s going on! If you’re on Facebook, send a friend request to CNW IVC, or subscribe to @CNW_IVC on Twitter to get punchy updates, especially designed for those with too short an attention span to wade through the whole bulletin 😉
For those of you not coming to the Christmas party, fear not, there are plenty of other Christmassy activities in the programme, from the Panto to Christmas Markets to Kay’s Christmas Cook-off. And, as ever, the requisite number of pub nights to ensure that there is ample opportunity go get into the Christmas Spirit!
Hope to see you all at a club night or event, but if our paths don’t cross, here’s wishing you and yours a great Christmas and a fabulous 2012!
I’ve been off on my travels, working in Paris during the week for the last couple of months, so haven’t been able to make it to a Wednesday Club night for a while. It seems that the decision to move around some of the more popular pubs around town has been working well, so we’re sticking to this formula for November.
Having been away, It was great to be able to catch up with so many of you on Saturday night, at Christine’s Hallowe’en party. Once again, Chris put on a fantastic spread and dazzled us with her sparkly mask and disco balls. I’m pleased to say that everyone rose to the occasion with masks ranging from the beautiful, the beastly and (courtesy of our friends in the walking group) the frankly bizarre! A big thanks to Chris for hosting one of the best events of the year, and a reminder to everyone that there is a subsidy of £50 to contribute towards food costs, for anyone who hosts a house party.
As November is almost upon us, I hope you’ve booked your Christmas Party tickets! We originally gave a deadline of 1st Nov, but as Club night this week falls on 2nd Nov, this will now be your LAST CHANCE to get the fully discounted rate of £36 if you’ve hosted an event. I will be at Club night, so please come armed with cash or cheque books, if you haven’t already paid for your tickets.
And a quick reminder that there are still places available on next week’s Ghost Train event in Llangollen. Please give me a call if you are interested. Hope to see you on Wednesday!
Photos from last years Halloween Party and Christmas Party are now online, apologies for the delay. If you have any more you’d like to share please send them in.
I’ve also uploaded some new photos from the (Wild West Themed) Spring Ball.
