With winter truly upon us it’s time to head for cosy pubs with open fires and festive cheer.
We’ll be kicking off the festivities with Pip’s Xmas Spirit pub crawl, Christmas jumpers, tinsel and even baubles are encouraged! Next is the Mystery of the Flowery Knob (panto!) closely followed by a lovely cosy meal and pub night in the Bear and Billet. We’ve got a fizzy Friday to get us in the mood for the Christmas party on the 22nd – a real night of glitz, glam and indulgence!
Christmas is a time to spend with friends and family. It would be really great to see you over the festive period.
Jingle all the way!
Well August was certainly jam packed with great events! September is looking a little quieter but still has a great variety so whether you’re in the mood for the races, the cinema, a meal out, comic con or a graffiti artist show then we’ve got you covered.
If you haven’t put on an event yet this year then please have a chat with Alison W or a member of the committee.
I’ll be organising the Christmas party over the coming weeks so keep an eye out for my mails.
See you all soon.
I hope you all enjoyed last month’s events. I can’t believe it’s December already; this year seems to have flown by.
I am really looking forward to the Christmas party at the Double Tree; we are trying out a new venue this year following the Racecourse the previous two years. We have now sold all our tickets, and it should be a great night. For those of you on the reserve list I will let you know if any spaces become available.
The calendar is a little bit empty over the Christmas period as people will be off doing their own thing with family and friends; feel free to organize any ad-hoc events using the members’ group e-mail and Facebook page.
Club night falls on Christmas Eve this year so we have decided to have a pub crawl instead to get us into the festive mood. We are also hoping to get something organized for New Year’s Eve, possibly a house party or a night out; if you have any ideas or would like to host please let Rhian know.
This should have been in last month’s Chairman’s Chat but I had already submitted it before Andy reminded me… So, better late than never well done to both Andy and Giles, who have both been sporting fine moustaches over the past month, for yet another year of supporting Movember raising money for men’s health awareness. You can donate at http://uk.movember.com/team/1597397.
We have had another change on the committee this month as Carol stepped down due to other commitments. So I would like to welcome and thank Heather who has volunteered to take her place.
Finally I would like to welcome our newest members Pip and Helen.
Have a good month every one and I wish you all a Happy Christmas and New Year.
Hope you all enjoyed last months events. My legs are still hurting after getting back from the Lakes at the weekend. We were very lucky with the weather avoiding the rain, although it did try once or twice. There was a group walk on the Saturday and then I decided along with Richard C and Andy C to complete a further walk on the Sunday. Most of the group opted for a leisurely boat trip around the lake and a walk around the shops in Keswick. A big thank you to Jo for organising it’s always a great weekend away.
I also made my 3rd trip down the copper mines at Alderley Edge last month, which is always fun and interesting and I can highly recommend it if Aidan or anyone else ever decided to put on another a trip in the future.
Don’t forget if you haven’t yet bought your Christmas party ticket there are still some places available but they’re going fast. For those that have reserved tickets we will be sending out an e-mail later this month on collecting the balance as we need to pay the hotel in November.
Finally I would like to wish Claire the best of luck in her new job as she will shortly be leaving us to take up an exciting new job in Jakarta, Indonesia this month.
Have a good month everyone 🙂
I think I should have kept quite about the nice sunny weather in last months chairman’s chat; August seems to have ended up a bit on the wet side. We still had a good time and luckily it stayed dry for our fab Summer BBQ Party. A big thank you goes out to Rhian for organizing it along with her helpers and volunteer cooks Mike and Lee –it’s not easy catering for over 30 people on a tight budget, but the event was a great success and enjoyed by all.
Speaking of Rhian I think she might have set a record last month, well since I have been in the club anyway by hosting 5 events in a single month. I will have to remember that one when it comes to giving out prizes at the AGM next year.
Don’t forget to reserve your Christmas party tickets, they’re going fast at the time of writing this – 32 places have been reserved so far. I will be reserving further tickets with the Double Tree to make more spaces available; it should be a great night and I hope to see as many of you there as possible.
There are lots of great events to look forward to this month: our trip to the Lakes, another trip down the mines and bowling, to name a few that I’m looking forward to attending.
Have a great month everyone 🙂
So the clocks have changed and we’re starting November with a weekend jam-packed with seasonal treats; make sure you read on into the bulletin quickly or you’ll be too late for everything on the first page!
We had a great turn-out for the Autumn Party at the Commercial so thanks to all the committee who were involved in organising that. I’ve also this month enjoyed finally making it to our monthly cocktail night; Kuckoo exceeded expectations with great drinks and excellent music!
Of course we have the Christmas Party coming up (Saturday 7th December 2013), it will be a great event so do get your tickets as soon as possible. The racecourse is a lovely venue and I hope to see lots of you there. Ask any of the committee for more information or check out the photographs from last year on our website. I’d better go dress shopping soon…
Finally, I’m delighted to give a warm welcome to THREE new members this month: Helen, Gen and Sarah!
It seems almost impossible on this dark evening that we started the month with a BBQ! Thanks for that, Gareth! Autumn is well and truly with us now, so to celebrate we’re having a party. I hope lots of you can join us at The Commercial on Saturday 19th; new members and those of you thinking about joining as well as lots of long-standing IVC stalwarts. It should be a great night, so please come along and bring your friends.
Our Christmas Party is not as far away as you’d think; we have reserved 40 tickets which will go on sale this month at £43, but remember there is a £7 subsidy for anyone who has put on a bulletined event this year (November bulletin at the latest). Do get moving if you’d like to take advantage of this subsidy and haven’t contributed to the programme yet this year. I really enjoyed the racecourse last year and so have SATURDAY 7TH DECEMBER 2013 clearly marked on my calendar! Please also remember the tickets are first come first served; we can get extra ones but only if you let us know with plenty of notice i.e. not the week before!
This month I’m looking forward to finally making it to Kuckoo; I’ve heard so many good things about the venue of our new regular cocktail nights so will make sure this is the month I join Leanne and Natalie there for a drink or two! Also we have some great club nights.
Notices this month are a big welcome to new member Helen Spencer and also a huge congratulations to members Andy and Rachael who got married on Saturday 21st September.
Firstly, Happy New Year to you all!
I sit writing this with Mary Poppins on in the background and a box of Christmas chocolates by my side; reflecting on a fabulous festive season! It seems a long time ago now but I had a brilliant night at our Christmas Party at the Racecourse and it was wonderful to wake up on the Sunday to see so many texts, Facebook comments and e-mails about how much everyone else had enjoyed it too.
So what will 2013 bring? We have a few good things in the diary to kick it off, and hopefully it will be another excellent year for us. Remember you can help do your bit in the following ways:
Host an event. Send us details of your event, or talk to Alison B and Andy C for any help and advice on this.
Give feedback! Let any of the committee know your thoughts on how things are going and give us your own suggestions on anything and everything.
If you’ve been to an IVC event and enjoyed it, send me a quick text, e-mail or facebook message so I can tweet about it (or tweet about it yourselves @cnw_ivc); it all helps raise our profile in Cheshire and North Wales and attract new members.
More impromptu events or things that need booking in well in advance can be arranged by e-mailing the whole group: send your message to the Google group, and as soon as one of the committee has chance to approve and release your message (don’t panic if there is a bit of a delay!) it will be sent out to everyone.
Best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous new year to you all,
December’s here! I can believe it though, because it’s freezing! I’m looking forward to putting up my Christmas tree the day before the party and declaring the festive season open from then.
November’s been a busy month for me so I’ve missed a few IVC events which sounded great, but I enjoyed my first time at Dave’s cinema night and an epic feast at grub of the month at Hickory’s Smokehouse. Thanks to everyone who put things on this month and especially to those who hosted their first events! Great to see new members rolling their sleeves up and getting involved.
Thanks also to everyone who brought items for the Liverpool Keep Warm Collective’s appeal for women’s winter clothing. These were dropped in Liverpool this week and will be much appreciated.
We have 39 of us off the Racecourse for the Christmas Party and with a good mix of long standing and newer members it should prove to be a great event! I’m also over-excited as ever about our trip to the Theatre Clwyd Pantomime, which is always joyful. As we go to press there’s one ticket going spare so get in touch with Jo if you fancy it!
Have a great Christmas and New Year everyone and get thinking about some events for January that are New Year’s Resolution friendly: low cost, low calorie, high energy and maybe a chance to try new things?!
