It looks like summer is with us, let’s hope it stays as we’ve got some great pubs with lovely outdoor areas for club nights this month.
The two events I got to in June were well attended and a good time was had by all. The curry night put on by Hillary
and Jenni was particularly busy!
We all made it back in one piece from Jakarta and I am pleased to say Claire is doing well and in fine fettle.
On that note, keep your diaries free on 7th August as Claire is making a flying visit to the UK and putting on an event while she’s here. That’s a picture of me at one of the hotels we stayed in.
July is looking great with the races, a beer festival, a walk/cycle/pub lunch, a poetry evening and a walk and blog to get the literary juices flowing. I think there must be something there for everyone.
I hope to see a lot of you out over the coming weeks. If the lovely weather inspires you to put on a last minute event just drop a mail to ************************.
See you soon.
I’m writing this after a great committee meeting, where I think we managed to achieve something despite the repeated fits of giggles!
The highlight of the month for me was the beer festival, mainly as there was such a good turnout from members new and longstanding; it was great to catch up with so many people. Also I particularly enjoyed the coach trip back to Chester, where two Scouse girls were lambasting a sheepish looking young man about his poor performance downing the yard of ale. If only it was on YouTube.
We’ve made some steps forward with events in terms of keeping you all up to date so I just want to summarise these for you here. The current bulletin will be e-mailed out as normal at the start of each month but can also now be found in the members area of the website. There is also a calendar feature in the members area where you can view Forthcoming Events (further into the future than just the current bulletin). Hover over the dates on the calendar and you can see what is on. This might be useful if you’re wondering which dates are free to put on an event, or planning your own diary around what’s on. However you can always speak to Hilary or Jenni on the events e-mail address to find out everything you need to know if you’d like to host something and are wondering how it fits in with our existing plans.
We have also developed our “shop windows” for prospective members – a public facebook page, and on the website a calendar showcasing past events so people can get a flavour of who we are and what we do. Do take a look, “like” the facebook page, and speak to Leanne, Aidan, or myself for more info on these.
We welcome this month new member Hannah Edwards – if you haven’t met her yet, do say hello to her on a club night soon!
Welcome to the December edition of the IVC bulletin. Is it really only the start of December? I don’t know about you, but I’ve been looking out of the window at all the ice and snow and thinking it must be January or something. Fortunately I’m assured I haven’t overslept and missed Christmas!
Thanks go to Jo for bringing back the bonfire party… it turns out that even building a house in the middle of the garden doesn’t stop you finding space to let off fireworks, although a fair number of people were hiding behind the garage when some of the fireworks were let off! Thanks as well to Jo, and everyone else who contributed, for all the food that was there.
There’s still one or two places left at the Christmas party on the 18th, so if you hurry you might still get a place! There are a few of you who haven’t got your menu choices in, or even your money (tut, tut!) so get them in quickly or we’ll have to send the mob round to collect… We’ve got a room to ourselves this year, and I’m looking forward to another great do!
We’ve also got a visit to the German Christmas Markets in Manchester to look forward to, the carol concert in Chester Cathedral on the 19th (a great lead-up to Christmas, assuming we’ve recovered from the party!) and of course the traditional not-so-traditional rock and roll panto – for which there might be a couple of tickets left. And I’m looking for some more crazy people to get their Santa outfits and come running round the centre of Liverpool with me. What’s that you say? I’m the only crazy one here? How dare you!
Have fun and have a great Christmas,
Christmas is coming, the diary’s looking fat, please come to the pub for our club night? Hmm: I think I might have to work on my rhyming…
Christmas is coming, the diary’s looking fat, please put a January event into the hat, if you don’t know what to do then God Bless You.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, The new diary is on its way, oh what fun it would be to fill it up today! We have a new diary so HEY HO HEY HO HEY! 🙂 🙂 🙂 Please come along to one of the remaining club nights and put an event (or two) in the diary for 2010! (Especially if you didn’t put an event on in 2009 as you are kind of missing the point of this being a club run by members for members 😉
If you didn’t get December’s bulletin please let me know as it is out!
If you need help planning an even or want to put a joint event on with someone else Aidan is there and will give you all the help that you need. Poetry writing anyone… ?
ps. Thanks to Steph and Emma for putting on shopping trips to Manchester and Liverpool (although I think we had more fun in Liverpool as we went to see a show afterwards !)
Thanks too to Jackie for arranging for a lovely Sunday pub lunch: see you all again this Saturday (well, it is festive meal season after all 😉 )
Was that summer? Did anyone else miss it? never mind, we took one last chance to make the most of it before the weather crept in and spoil our fun by going to see As you Like It at Speke Hall a couple of weekends ago so a big thanks to Amanda for organising that!
If anyone hasn’t received the September bulletin can you please let me know,
And if you want to go to Rhoscolyn for the weekend away please let Emma know: now!
