Chairman’s Chat, April 2018

Hi all,

I hope you all had a lovely Easter break!

The CNW-IVC birthday party is almost upon us on the 14th. We’ve reached the ripe old age of 27. The party is open to current members, past members, prospective members and guests. Please RSVP to me by the 4th.

Our AGM is quickly approaching, we’ve provisionally booked it for the 2nd of May. At this meeting the current serving committee members step down and anyone interested in standing for a role let’s everyone know and we take a vote. I will be sending out the details of the roles over the coming weeks so if you’d like to contribute to the running of our club please keep an eye out. If you’d like more information on the roles please speak to a current member of the committee.

I hope to see as many of you at the party, and if you know any past members be sure to let them know they’re more than welcome!

Enjoy!

Rhian

Chairman’s Chat, May 2017

Hi all,

I’d like to start with a big thank you to our outgoing committee members Mike, Laura, Lee, Maria and Sam for all of their good work over the last year. I’d also like to thank our remaining committee members Pip, Ellie, Dave and Richard for their continued support of our club.

I’m pleased to welcome Mel, Alison and Robbie to the committee. All three have great ideas and will bring a fresh approach to the roles.

This month we have the return of a favourite, the Chester Charity Beer Festival, a cinema night and something brand new – a roller disco night!!! We also have a new member’s evening which I would encourage all of you to come along to. It’s always a great night and it’s great for prospective members to see the diversity and character of our current membership.

There are interesting times ahead and I hope to see you all out and about soon.

Chairman’s Chat, April 2017

Hi all,

As our AGM is fast approaching I’d like to ask you all to think about what makes our club what it is and think about what could be done to make it even better. I’m proud of our diverse membership and also how some members have chosen to stay part of the group for so long. I feel we could do better at putting on a wider range of events and encouraging members to put on at least one event per year. If you have any ideas on how we could improve things please table motion by emailing our Secretary by the 11th of April.

Through the use of Meetup, new members’ events and our trusty newspaper advert, I’m pleased to say that we are attracting lots of new people.

I hope to see as many of you at possible for our AGM at the Cross Keys on the 19th April. Come along at 7pm for a free drink, the meeting starts at 7:30.

Chairman’s Chat , March 2017

Hi all,

February was fun filled with a great variety of well attended events. We kicked the month off with the hoedown which I would definitely recommend if it comes round again. A great group joined Mike for a delicious Chinese meal. It was great to see new and old faces at the new member’s event and fizzy Friday.

March starts with catch up drinks at Duttons. We’ll be helping Dave C celebrate a significant birthday and waving bon voyage to Lee as he sets off in search of adventures on the high seas. We’ll round off the month with a stroll along the Dee and a pub lunch.

Please have a think about events for April and get in touch with Laura using the events email at the back of the bulletin.

We’ll be having the AGM in April. Do you think you could spare some time to support the club and join the committee? If so please have a chat with one of the current committee members of go to our website for a description of the roles.

I’d like to welcome Andy, Mel and Jonathan to the club.

See you all soon.

Chairman’s Chat, May 2016

Hi all,

We had our second mixer in April to attract potential new members and it was great to see some new faces. The success of the mixers has been enhanced by our presence on Meetup and we’re seeing more people joining our online group.

April also saw our 25th anniversary, the party was great and I’d like to thank Laura and Lee for organising it and Christine for baking the delicious cake.

As you know it’s our AGM on Wednesday the 4th of May. It’s not too late to stand for any of the committee positions, just get in touch if you need any information.

I hope to see as many of you as possible on Wednesday.

Rhian

Chairman’s Chat, April 2016

HI All,

We’ve had quite an eventful month with a trip to Liverpool with Dave, or second new members event, basket ball matches and a boozy Easter egg hunt.

We have a lot to look forward to this month with our third new members event on the 9th, a night out in Telfords on the 29th (always popular) and a walking tour of Chester on the 30th. On top of these events, I’m really excited to be celebrating our 25th Anniversary on the 23rd. This will be a really special event and we hope to see many members, both old and new and prospective ones too!

You will remember last year that the committee were looking at new ways of attracting new members. Dave has been busy working his IT magic and signed us up to Meetup for a six month trial. A lot of other IVCs have already done this and we hope to expose our group to a wider audience. A separate message will be sent letting you know how to get involved.

Finally, a May date for your diary, We will be holding the AGM on May 4th (venue TBC). I would encourage all of you to think about taking up a role on the Committee, its a really rewarding way to get more involved with our IVC group. I will send out more information about the roles but in the meantime please speak to any of the Committee members.

Enjoy!

Chairman’s Chat, May 2015

Hi All,

The May Chairman’s chat it is usually all about the AGM and welcoming the new committee but I am writing this before the AGM, as it’s being held late this year. Hopefully we should now have a new committee elected and have recruited a few new volunteers to replace those who have stepped down. It’s always great to see new people joining the committee every year who can bring some new ideas and enthusiasm to take the club forward into the next membership year.

I had some great nights out last month; thanks to Matthew and Lee for coming along to my Telford’s night to see the Sundowners. Telford’s is always a great night and the band were really good. We had a great turn out for Alison’s birthday later in the month which was enjoyed by all with a mix of older and newer members, and even some ex members. It was a shame that the canal trip was cancelled last month due to John’s work commitments, but I believe he is planning to reschedule the event later this year so look out for that one as I know a number of people were looking forward to it.

Lots to look forward to this month: Spring Party, Pub Crawl, two beer festivals, Eurovision party, BBQ and much more 🙂

Finally I would like to welcome our newest member Sam.

Have a good month everyone and congratulations to the new committee.
Cheers
Dave

Chairman’s Chat, April 2015

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a good month and enjoyed last month’s events. Thanks to those of you that joined me for my birthday celebrations at Telfords; I had a great night and the band “Tankus the Henge” were really good. I ended the night with Disco Dave making an appearance on the dance floor. I had such a good night that I have decided to host another Telfords night this month with a band that have had good press and also appeared at Glastonbury; I am expecting good things. I believe the pub night with Ellie also went down well and it’s great to hear that a number of our current prospective members joined her and had a really good night.

It’s the AGM this month, a bit later than usual, but we will be sticking to tradition and offering a free drink to all those that arrive promptly between 7:30pm and 8pm. We will then get down to business of reviewing 2014-15 and electing a new committee. All committee places will be up for grabs so if you would like to get involved with the running of the club there are current committee members who have decided not to stand for re-election, so we will be looking to find some new faces to join us.

Have a good month everyone and I hope to see lots of you at the AGM 🙂

Cheers

Dave

Chairman’s Chat, March 2015

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all enjoyed last month’s events. I particularly enjoyed Rhian’s “Are You Feeling Lucky” pub crawl. It’s great to see something a bit different and imaginative on the bulletin. It was enjoyed by all, and there was a great turn out. For those that didn’t join us, the event was a pub crawl with the next pub decided by the throw of a dice with the six sides representing the six nearest pubs. As an added bit of fun we could then bet on which pub we thought would be next with the winners collecting the wagers on each throw. The route ended up being The Boot > Duttons > Botanist > Coach House > Liverpool Arms.

While talking about something a bit different, a new regular event has been added to the bulletin this month thanks to Helen H (aka Tall Helen). It’s one for all you fitness types: she is running an aerobic trampoline event, see the regular events section for more details.

The CNW-IVC AGM is nearing us fast, where we will discuss the club’s future direction and elect a new committee. It’s now looking likely it will be held in early May, due to the AIVC holding their Conference in late April – more details to follow next month.

And finally a big welcome to our newest member Clare Mulholland.

Have a good month everyone 🙂

Cheers
Dave

Chairman’s Chat, February 2015

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a good January and have stuck to all your New Years’ resolutions. I always make a few in the hope I manage to keep to at least one.

I went to see the Theory of Everything last month, which was chosen in my monthly Facebook vote for our cinema night. It’s not the kind of film I would normally go for but it was really good and the acting was amazing for such a hard role to play. I can see lots awards coming Eddie Remayne way who played Stephen Hawking. I would defiantly recommend going to see it. I would also like to thank Rhian and Sian for organising a lovely walk out to the Plough in Waverton along the canal.  There was a really good turn out; definitely one for us to do again in the summer.

This year is already going fast, after organising the Christmas party it’s now time to start thinking about the AGM, which is just round the corner in April. So it’s time to start getting your thoughts together on the past year and the future of the club and talking to members of the committee if you’re interested in getting involved next year.

Lastly I would like to welcome our newest members David Atkinson and Claire Bolton.

Have a good month everybody.

Dave
