When I realised that I’d scheduled my Parkgate stroll on the same afternoon as England’s first world cup game, I thought I might be strolling alone! However, the sun shone, as requested, and there was a great turnout so thank you to everyone who came along- it would have been very dull on my own! We started with the obligatory Parkgate ice cream (well, it would be silly not to!) and very nice it was too, before heading off along the front past the Boathouse and eventually joining the Wirral Way. The Harp Inn provided a welcome spot for rest and refreshment en route, with lovely views out across the Dee estuary before making our way back through the reed beds to Parkgate. Having well and truly walked off the ice cream by the time we returned to the car, a curry at Connah’s Quay finished the evening off nicely, and I think the curry house was very glad to have our custom on what looked like a very slow night for them! Hopefully they weren’t planning on sitting and watching the football either…
This weekend our chair, in her last event in that role, lead us on a 6 mile walk from Cilcain up to Moel Fammau and along to Moel Arthur. When I say ‘lead’ someone else had done the walk before so told us where to go and she had someone else carry the map for her but it was her idea! And what a glorious day we had for it!
We met at 11 and after an hour waiting for various stragglers to find us set off from the village (starting next to the pub: it was a circular walk (can you see where I’m going with this?)) and through fields of lambs to the first hill. It was lovely so we stopped a few times and decided to go to the top of Moel Fammau for lunch. We rested again there and had our lunches before strolling along the ridge to look across at Moel Arthur. As it was so nice we walked up that hill too and on reaching the village again stopped at the pub.
Hope to see you soon at a future event, we’ll be in Llangollen next weekend and our next weekend away is Derwentwater in May.

Thanks to Jo for organising the trip to Llangollen where a few of us went walking in the rain to Horsehoe Falls (by which time it had cheered up a bit (there are pictures in the members area for those of you who are interested)). We stopped for a very nice £5 pub lunch on the way back along the canal at the Chain Bridge Hotel *; finishing our trip off with a bit of Christmas shopping in the craft store in town.
A group of members also went to see Men Who Stare At Goats at Cheshire Oaks and more of us will be out at the pub later tonight.
The Christmas Ball has sold out (we had to buy extra seats to fit you all in!). Don’t forget though that you can still buy raffle tickets for our charity raffle so please do.
The diary is now open for December and January for our social club so now would be a good time to put an event on in Chester, Cheshire or North Wales…

A big thank you goes out to Emma who organised a weekend away in Anglesey and managed to pick a weekend that was perfect with wall to wall sunshine for the whole time.
We all arrived on Friday night and relaxed after a hard week at work and we were all up ready and raring to go on the Saturday. Trustworthy Graham took the lead and directed us on a scenic walk along the coastal path. One group took the easy shorter option via the pub and the more adventerous continued. We all then met on the beach and the brave ( or dare I say stupid ) ones managed to go swimming in the ice cold sea. All I can say is that Graham did a very good impression of Daniel Craig!!!
The evening was spent recovering from our day with fish and chips and a bit of drink. Again no rest for the wicked as Sunday we divided up into 2 groups and some ventured off to Aberfraw to catch some rays and exercise those legs and then some got into their kayaks to see the delights of Anglesey coastline from a different angle. Hopefully everyone who went will say that they had a fab time and now we all know who William Booth is! Do you?
I have got my hands on some more photos of the canoeing trip and our camping barn trip: this time from Aarti and they are on the website as well as a couple from Emma’s walk that I took, have a browse and as ever: if you have more hand them over!

IVC Social Activities Club
Thanks to Emma for organising a great walk along the Sandstone trail on Sunday as well as a friendly pub night on Wednesday. We are looking forward to going to the beer festival this Saturday.

This Sunday Amanda will lead us on a merry walk along the 13 miles that make up the Baker Way, starting at Delamere Railway Station and finishing in Chester. En-route we will be sampling a couple of jars at local hostelries.
